Nautical Cutwork Picture, America, early 19th century, elaborate cutwork applied to blue paper, the center with circular reserve containing cupids above the initials "G.W.S.," surrounded by quarter-round spandrels showing sailing vessels, figures of "Hope," and battlements, all delineated by elaborate cutwork borders and flowering vines, the lower margin inscribed in pen in Gothic script "God bles the Saeman [sic] on the Sae [sic] & the Landsman on the Land," (stains, toning, minor losses and tears),9 1/4 x 12 1/4 in., in a period black-painted frame with turned corner bosses.

Vertical and horizontal fold through the center with some short associated splits, the left and right edges of the page have several c. 1/4 in. splits.
