Description:

Needlework Sampler "Rebecca Adams," New Ipswich, New Hampshire, 1788, stitched in silk or wool threads on a linen background, five lines of alphabet, single line of numbers with flowering bush, tree, heart, bird and cat, inside black border, stitched inscription reads: "Rebecca Adams/born July the 27th/1767/New Ipswich/September 13/1788," in a gilt frame, (lightly toned, minor spots),ht. 7 1/4, wd. 7 1/4 in.

Note: Rebecca Adams was born July 27, 1767, in New Ipswich, New Hampshire, to Deacon Ephraim Adams (1724-1797) and Rebekah Locke Adams (1735-1822). She married Abel Shedd (1769-1819) on October 22, 1793, and together they had six children. Rebecca died in Ringe, New Hampshire, on September 11, 1823.
