Sketch of a Seated Woman
Unsigned.
Brown ink on laid paper, 4 1/4 x 6 in. (10.8 x 15.3 cm),framed.
Condition: Small tear to center left, creases at top edge, mat burn, toning, minor staining, minor wear to edges of the sheet, with a drawing of another seated figure on the reverse, sheet hinged to back mat in two places on the reverse.
Provenance: From the Estate of Paul Lauer.
N.B. The lot is accompanied by an original bill of sale from The Drawing Shop, New York, dated March 30, 1965, and by a copy of a letter from Patrick Noon, Acting Curator, Prints and Drawings, Yale Center for British Art, dated August 29, 1981, stating his opinion that the drawing is by George Romney and likely came from a sketch book.

The drawing on the reverse shows through to the recto as a shadow image.
Paper bears a partial watermark which is too minimal to decipher.
