. Unsigned, each inscribed with the sitter's name and location on the reverse. Oil on canvas, 28 1/2 x 23 1/4 in., in period mitered wood frames with gilt liners. Condition: Both with craquelure and scattered minute paint losses.

Note: A genealogical search finds that Lydia Maria Mendenhall was born August 6, 1787, in Wilmington, Delaware, the oldest of six children born to Thomas and Mary (Zane) Mendenhall. Lydia married John Nielson on July 28, 1810, in Delaware township, Pennsylvania.
