English School, Late 19th Century

White Marble Portrait Plaque of a Woman, signed "E.A. Fawcett 1894" possibly for Emily Addis Fawcett, set within a gilded frame with base, plaque sight ht. 16 3/4, total ht. 30 3/4 in.

N.B. A similar relief portrait of a man with the same signature, dated 1888 is in the V&A collection (museum number: A.18-2000). Emily Addis Fawcett exhibited at the Royal Academy of Arts in London between 1883 and 1896, where she showed works in terracotta, marble and bronze. She also exhibited at the Society of Women Artists in 1895, 1896, and 1908, and at the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool, and the Salon des Artistes Français, Paris.

Not examined out of frame. There appears to be two rim chips slightly visible as well as several surface pits.
