Pair of Shell Game Boxes, Kaioke, Japan, 18th/19th century, each octagonal box set within an octagonal tray, depicting scenes from the "Tale of Genji" and Tokugawa and other family crests, the overall nashiji ground with various lacquer techniques and silver and gold cut particles, the box and tray supported on eight legs, two with holes, ht. 18 1/2, dia. 14 1/4 in.
