Her biography on Ask Art states that she was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, studied at the University of Chicago, the Art Students League in New York and the Grand Chaumiere in Paris. The greater part of her life, she lived in Laurel Hollow, Long Island. She was one of Alexander Calder's early supporters, and they had a life-long friendship.
