First edition, two parts in one volume; part one illustrated with two text engravings, six full page plates, and three folding (or double-page) plates; part two illustrated with two folding maps, fourteen text engraved maps/plans, and numerous text illustrations; a variant with same title and imprint exists without priority; part three includes two additional chapters concerning Captains Cook and Sharp not previously published; bound in full red morocco by Bedford, a.e.g., inner gilt dentelles, housed in a custom slipcase; some maps with breaks along the folds, the last three leaves (printer's ads) remargined along bottom edge; bottom corner back board bumped; tips rubbed, 8 x 6 1/2 in.
