N.B. This engraving by Alexander Hay Ritchie was made after Daniel Huntington's 1861 painting, The Republican Court (Lady Washington's Reception Day), now in the collection of the Brooklyn Museum. Huntington was commissioned to create it expressly for reproduction as a marketable print. To differentiate between the two, the print was retitled. The scene includes sixty-four individual portraits of notables of the day gathered at one of Lady Washington's Friday evening receptions. (1)
