Heath & Co. 7-inch "Hezzanith" Sextant, Serial no. 70, London, England, black pierced frame, quick-release index arm marked Hezzanith Endless Tangent Screw Automatic Clamp, brass arc engraved Heath & Co. New Eltham, London, S.E. 9 with inset silvered scale calibrated 0-130, vernier knob calibrated 0-55 for fine adjustment, sun shades, horizon mirror, all in a fitted mahogany box with certificate of examination reading in part: The "Hezzanith" Instrument works Sextant No. R 70, with additional eyepiece, brush, and, screwdriver, and original bill of sale.
Provenance: David Grice of Marlborough, Massachusetts, World War II veteran.
Note: This instrument's original bill of sale came from F. Smith & Son, Nautical & Scientific Instrument makers, 23 Oxford St. Southampton, and dated September 8th, 1946.
