James Pool 18kt Gold Open Face Watch, 33 Spencer Street, London, No. 1601, c. 1860, the porcelain Roman numeral dial inscribed James Poole/London/1601, gold hands and sunk seconds, the case back hallmarked with crown and 18, case maker AS, serial number as above and date mark for 1861, the lid with vacant cartouche opens to the three-quarter gilt plate movement inscribed as above, key-wind and set, lever escapement, screwed chatons, bimetallic balance and diamond endstone, dia. 43 mm, 74 g.
