Colt Model 1851 Navy Revolver Inscribed to Louis T. Wigfall from Joseph E. Johnston, c. 1855, serial number 40938, all matching numbers, walnut grip, backstrap is inscribed L.T. Wigfall from J.E. Johnston/with Respect and Friendship, top of the barrel marked ADDRESS SAML COLT NEW.YORK CITY, barrel lg. 7 1/2, overall lg. 13 3/4 in.
Note: Senator Louis T. Wigfall was a Senator from Texas, and after the state seceded from the union, was briefly a Confederate officer in the Texas Brigade before taking a seat in the Confederate Senate. He was very good friends with Joseph E. Johnston both before and during the Civil War.
