Description:

Richmond Depot Type II Jacket from 2nd Lieutenant John James Haines, 2nd Virginia Infantry, c. 1862-63, blue-gray English army cloth shell, French blue doeskin applied cuffs and collar, three cuff-size Federal general service buttons on each cuff, hand-applied gold second lieutenant's galloon on the sleeves, with one piece on each side of the collar, nine-button front with six Maryland state buttons remaining on the right front forepart, and a cotton osnaburg lining with an inside pocket on the left front. Included is an object analysis by Leslie D. Jensen.

Provenance: The collection of Denis E. Reen.

Note: Purchased from the Haines family, where it had been passed down from the original owner. Lieutenant Haines is listed as being wounded during the battle of Fredericksburg, Virginia, on December 13th, 1862. He was captured November 13th, 1863 in Frederick County, Virginia, and was released on June 12th, 1865.

Has some minor mothing and age consistent wear, and a few loose seams but is in overall good condition.
