Identified Brimfield Powder Horn, c. 1775, signed by carver Joseph Nelson, inscribed BRIMFIELD DEC/1775, and John Anderson his horn/Joseph Nelson, with finely engraved foliate designs and patterns, pine plug, and a faceted spout, overall lg. 14 1/2 in.
Note: Many Joseph Nelsons and John Andersons are listed in Massachusetts Soldiers & Sailors of the American Revolution, the Historical Collections Town of Brimfield by Reverend Charles M. Hyde, lists a Joseph Nelson born in 1755, and a John Anderson as a Corporal in the town militia in the year 1760.
