N.B. Born in Cagliari, Italy, Mario De Candia was a 19th century opera singer who debuted at the Paris opera in 1838, and in London the following year at Her Majesty's Theatre, playing the role of Gennaro in Donizetti's Lucrezia Borgia. He became one of the 19th century's greatest opera tenors. De Candia died in Rome in 1883.
