Condition: Lined, scattered retouch, craquelure.
N.B. Affixed to the stretcher is a handwritten partial label that reads "John Porter, d.1793/He married Jane Thornton." Genealogical research undertaken by the current owner reveals a John Porter of Yorkshire, England, who was married to Jane Thornton, also of Yorkshire. Files give conflicting dates of birth for John Porter (c. 1732 or c. 1740),as well as for his marriage (1756 or 1776).
