Renaissance Revival Joseph Moore Cabinet Desk, Indianapolis, Indiana, last quarter 19th century, with pierced and spindled superstructure surmounting case with burl veneers and ebonized accents, opens to reveal interior with multiple compartments and drawers, with left side pull-down tooled red leather writing surface, with upper case correspondence slots, and lower stack of five drawers flanked by slots, right side of cabinet with numerous compartments, exterior plaque inscribed, "MOORE'S CABINET DESK/INDIANAPOLIS IND./PATENTED JAN. 8 1878", closed, ht. 66, wd. 41 1/2, dp. 29 in.
N. B. Joseph Moore was the general manager of Wooton Manufacturing Co. in 1876, but by 1878 he had patented his own "Cabinet Desk" and began working in direct competition with Wooton.
