Pair of Embroidered Rank Badges, China, 18th/19th century, depicting a leopard signifying the third military rank, standing on a crashing wave with a lishui border below, with bats and peony, lotus, and chrysanthemum sprigs, surrounded by stylized clouds and gilt scrolling tendrils, all embroidered in "forbidden stitch" or knotted stitch, mounted as a tray, badges 11 1/2 x 12 1/4, overall 13 1/4 x 26 1/4 in.

Glass removed from tray, loose and lost gold threads to both badges concentrated at the borders, overall fading.
