Jade Covered Vessel, China, flattened rectangular shape with angled shoulders and tapering sides, resting on a short rectangular stem foot, each side of the body decorated in bas relief with taotie masks and archaic scrolls in rows, the rectangular straight mouth with two carved mythical animal mask handles with a loose ring, the cover decorated with taotie masks alternating with two-bird scroll designs, topped with a finial in the shape of two facing animal heads, pale celadon stone with russet markings and white inclusions, ht. 9 1/2 in.
