Portrait Bust of a Young Lady in Contemplation
Oil on canvas, 23 1/2 x 17 1/2 in. (59.5 x 44.5 cm), framed.
Condition: Lined, retouch, craquelure, surface grime.
Frame with spandrels at upper corners.
It has been pointed out that this painting is a detail after Guercino's "St. Margareth of Antiochia" in the Church of San Pietro in Vicoli, Rome.
The canvas has been relined and reinforced with wax on new expandable stretcher bars. Surface has tiny craquelure, 4 in. abrasion (visible in photo), 3 in. area of vertical restoration in her neck with scattered retouch throughout her garment. Minor retouch in background. Housed in a 19th c. gilt frame: 31 x 25 in.
