Two Portraits: John Parker and Peter Parker, the portrait of John by Chester Harding (1792-1866),the portrait of Peter by George Peter Alexander Healy (Illinois/Massachusetts, 1813-1894),unsigned. oil on canvas, each showing the sitters in black coats, 28 x 24 and 29 x 23 1/2 in., respectively, in molded giltwood frames.
Note: John Parker Sr., the father of John (the sitter in the portrait by Chester Harding) and the grandfather of Peter (the sitter in the portrait by George Healy) was a captain of the minutemen at the battle of Lexington in 1775, according to a note affixed to the back of the frame of the portrait of Peter Parker.
