Oil on canvas, showing James in a brown suit, and Josephine in a pink dress holding a basket of flowers, both full length and standing in a landscape with view of Storm King mountain and the Hudson River, 45 1/4 x 28 1/4 in., in molded black-painted and giltwood frames.
Condition: Relined, scattered retouch, possible small repaired tears.
Note: John Carlin, a deaf-mute from birth, studied under Philadelphia artists before travelling abroad to London and Paris, eventually settling back in the United States, in New York. His works are in major public and private collections throughout the country.
