William IV Sterling Silver Entree Dish, Cover, and AssociatedSilver-Plate Stand, dish and cover: London, 1834-35, William Bateman, maker, Rundell, Bridge & Co., retailer, warming stand: Matthew Boulton, maker, all pieces numbered "4," the oblong dish with shell and foliage-heightened gadrooned rims and a stepped and domed lid surmounted by a crown-form finial, engraved to either side of cover and dish with the Royal crown, garter motto, and monogram "WR AR," lg. 11 3/4, approx. 73.6 troy oz.; set within a silver-plate warming stand and liner, the stand with two shell-and scroll-cast handles on four paw feet, lg. handle to handle 15 1/4 in.

N.B. This entree dish is part of an extensive service supplied by Rundell, Bridge & Co. to William IV (1765-1837) and Queen Adelaide (1792-1849) and bears the monogram of both monarchs. A portion of this service was originally auctioned by Christie's London in May 1898. Various pieces from the service have since reappeared on the market, including a pair of similar entree dishes sold at Christie's New York, April 20, 2001, Lot 250, and a soup tureen sold at Christie's London, January 26, 2006, Lot 65.

In excellent overall condition with only very minor age-related wear. Dish with very minor usage wear abrasions to interior, several unobtrusive pin-prick dents. Silver-plate stand with slight wiggle to one handle, one very minor dent to side and several to underside, liner with minor abrasions.
