Gothic Revival Carved Mahogany and Mahogany Veneer Extension Dining Table, probably Boston, c. 1845, the top extends with an accordion mechanism, with conforming beaded skirt, on quatrefoil post and scroll-form legs terminating in carved fans, on turned feet, with five leaves, refinished, (imperfections),ht. 29 1/4, wd. 49, lg. to 152 1/2 in.
Note: The extension mechanism is attributed to Cornelius Briggs, Roxbury, Massachusetts, who obtained a patent for same in 1843.
