Out of the frame the sheet is a smooth (now brittle) paper measuring 19 7/8 x 15 1/2 inches. The edges are uneven and have small losses and tears. They are "stablized" with old masking and brown paper tapes to the edges on the reverse. There are two pin holes within the composition. The paper itself is toned. There are several small stains plus an area stained by water or some liquid, just above the inscription and to the right of the man's knee.
