Portrait of a Gentleman
. Unsigned. Oil on panel, 20 x 16 in., framed. Condition: Craquelure, paint loss at l.c. edge, scattered minor paint losses, varnish inconsistencies, surface grime.
Estimate $1,500-2,500

A cluster of very small paint losses to u.r., probably a dozen or so within an area measuring 1-1/2 x 2-1/2 inches. A paint loss measuring 1/4 inch diameter at the l.c. edge, with the missing chip preserved. A second area of damage of similar size beside it, but still attached. Drips of old varnish or similar in two areas, one being from the bottom of ths sitter's sideburns down through his coat to the bottom of the canvas, and another drip on the right side in the coat.
