Melas Rug, Southwest Anatolia, first half 19th century, the red field inset with a large highly stylized plant form issuing two confronting apple green bent-tip and cone-shaped blossoms, carnation heads, and four aubergine, ivory, and gold palmettes, all within a wide gold alternating eight-pointed star and rosette-patterned main border, ivory rosette outer border, aubergine and red small-scale pentagonal motif minor borders, 6 ft. x 3 ft. 10 in.
