Group of Items Pertaining to Martha Ann Hays (b. 1820),Heartland, Vermont, first half 19th century, comprising: a portrait of Martha as a child, in a white dress shown holding a red doll and seated in a paint-decorated tablet-back child's armchair, 28 1/2 x 22 1/2 in., in a later giltwood frame; a portrait of Martha as a young woman in a brown dress, 27 x 22 1/2 in., in a later giltwood frame; a small red dress-clad china head doll, purportedly the one shown in the portrait of Martha as a child, in a shadow box frame; a photograph of Ruth Johnson (a descendant of Martha Ann Hays),who owned this group until 2003 (paintings restored).
Provenance: Purchased from Ruth Johnson, a descendant of the sitter, and reportedly a double for Ava Gardner in films.
