Description:
American School, Early 19th Century
Portrait of a Girl in a Red Dress and Gold Bead Necklace Holding Her Cat. Unsigned. Oil on canvas, 31 x 25 in., in a red-painted frame. Condition: Relined, retouch, varnished.
Estimate $4,000-6,000
Minor spots of retouch easily visible under blacklight above the current varnish. The varnish flouresces a milky green under the blacklight, and seems to obscure previous retouch. A note on the reverse says that the painting was relined and restored in about 1987.
