Portrait of the Bark Aberdeen at Naples, c. 1878. Unsigned. Gouache on paper, the vessel under full sail identified on a pennant and at stern, sailing right to left, the city and Mount Vesuvius off the starboard bow, 15 1/2 x 24 1/4 in. (sight),in a molded gilt-gesso frame. Condition: Minor toning, minor water damage, not examined out of frame.
Note: A typed note affixed to the backing includes information about the vessel. She was built in Searsport, Maine, in 1856, and was stranded off Long Branch, New Jersey, in 1885.

small hole upper left, water stains at lower left, amd along left edge, discoloration in sky, concentrated in upper right, minor creasing and abrasions.
