Woodland Pool
Signed "Enneking" l.r., titled in pencil on the stretcher and on a handwritten paper
and a gummed label, both affixed to the stretcher, stamped "Estate of John J. Enneking/..." on the reverse.
Oil on canvas, 20 x 24 in. (51.0 x 61.0 cm),in a period frame.
Condition: Minor craquelure in areas of heaviest impasto.

Provenance: Estate of the artist; private collection, New York; Christie's New York, Rockefeller Center, Fine American Paintings, Drawings, and Sculpture, February 13, 2002, Lot 70; private New England collection.

The stamp on the reverse reads: " No. /Estate of John J. Enneking/Florence E. Long/Grace E. Ward/J. Eliot Enneking/Administrators." The stamp does not have any number indicated for this work, but the work is numbered "5" within a cirle in pencil in two places on the stretcher and also on a gummed label on the stretcher, which may or may not relate.
