Continental Carved Ivory Goblet and Cover, possibly southern Germany, 18th century, the cover surmounted by a seated faun playing the pan pipes, the body carved in high-relief and depicting a bacchanal procession, on an acanthus-carved stem with medial ring and four scrolled terminals, and spreading foot carved with leaftips and gadrooning, unsigned, ht. 15 in.

With scattered deep cracks and darkening throughout. Cover with 3/4 in. chip to rim and minor loss to grapevine wreath. Bowl with minor loss to relief carving and large area of separation to join of bowl to stem. Foot with 2 3/4 in. piece broken off, but present.
