Auction: Fine Jewelry - 2771BLocation: BostonDate / Time: December 09, 2014 10:00AM

Description:

Rare Stainless Steel "Milgauss" Wristwatch, Rolex, c. 1966, the silver-tone metal dial with baton numeral indicators, automatic movement, 37 mm, no. 2,005,090, ref no. 1019, completed by an Oyster bracelet with deployant clasp, signed, (dial with tridium residue).

Note: The Milgauss wristwatch originates with the advent of electromagnetic technology. In an electromagnetic environment of more that 60 to 70 Gauss, the ordinary wristwatch was not able to keep time accurately, and would stop completely in an environment of more than 1000 Gauss. As increasing numbers of scientists and technicians were exposed to electromagnetic working conditions, a more reliable device was needed to insure precise time keeping in their work. Rolex created the Milgauss after years of research, with high anti-magnetic ability as an answer to this problem.
Estimate $12,000-15,000
