Second edition of Jones's text, the first edition to Charleton's response, three parts in one volume, general title printed in red and black; part one illustrated with Hollar's portrait of Jones, three text engravings, and ten of eleven engravings (seven of which are folding or double-paged),lacking the plate that should precede page 43; part two contains the portrait, and two plates, one of which is folding; part three is illustrated with ten text illustrations; some minor flaws to plates, including tears, paper flaws, et cetera; bound in later full calf, gilt spine, wove endleaves, wear to spine, old repairs to endcaps, joints cracking somewhat, 13 1/2 x 8 3/4 in.
Inigo Jones promulgates the theory that the ancient Romans built Stonehenge as a temple dedicated to Caelus, god of the sky.
