Hamilton, Charles (1753-1792) An Historical Relation of the Origin, Progress, and Final Dissolution of theRohilla Afgans in the Northern Provinces of Hindostan. London: for Kearsley, 1787.
First edition, octavo, pages untrimmed throughout, in later paper-covered boards, 8 3/4 x 5 1/4 in.
A local dispute between different ethnic groups in northern India ended poorly in 1774 when the British intervened. Soundly defeated by the Nawab as aided by the British East India Company, the Rohilla effectively lost their country. This complete history of the Rohilla, based on a Persian account translated by Hamilton, includes an account of the first Rohilla war.
