Description:

Silver Tablespoon, Paul Revere, Jr., Boston, c. 1785, with oval bowl and handle with rounded end monogrammed "DMS," for Daniel and Mary Turner Sargent, of Boston, and maker's mark "REVERE" within a rectangle, lg. 8 3/4 in.

Provenance: Prominent Boston couple Daniel Sargent (1731-1806),a merchant, and Mary Turner Sargent (1743-1813),daughter of John Turner, of House of Seven Gables fame, ordered a set of "12 large Silver Spoons," in 1783, according to the Revere Family Papers at the Massachusetts Historical Society. Six found their way from the family into the collection of silversmith George Gebelein, and were sold at auction at Christie's in June, 1989, as lot 301.
