Description:

Four Atlantic Yacht Club Sterling Silver Trophies, three Whiting: a two-handled cup with engraved inscription, "Atlantic Yacht Club/Decoration Day Regatta/May 30th 1896/Schooners Class 2/Won by/Emerald," ht. 4 1/4, and a creamer and sugar set in the Aesthetic-style, each baluster-form, with beaded rim and footrim, body engraved with berry branches, and shield-form cartouche with engraved inscription, "Prize for/ First class Sloops/ Regatta of the/ Atlantic Yacht Club/ June 18th 1872/ Won by Yacht/ Vixen," creamer ht. 4 1/2; and a Carl Schon silver-mounted shell resting on two silver shell-form feet with a barnacle-form reservoir, engraved to the edge of the shell: "Atlantic Club Race Week/Class P First Prize/"Windward" Aug. 21. 1912", ht. 1 1/2 in., approx. 21.1 troy oz. total weighable silver.

N.B. Emerald, a steel schooner, was designed by Henry C. Wintringham in 1893 and originally owned by John Rogers Maxwell. Maxwell was a member of the New York Yacht Club who also owned the schooner Shamrock. The notorious Captain Haff skippered Emerald. Henry "Hank" Haff was one of the most respected skippers of the day and won the America's Cup four times in fourteen years. He was inducted into the America's Cup Hall of Fame in 2004. The P-class sloop Windward was owned by R.A. Monks of New York in 1912.
