Two Yachting Trophies Won by Navahoe, early 20th century, a Black, Starr & Frost sterling silver-mounted colorless cut glass vase with engraved inscription, "The Squadron Runs/ New York Yacht Club/ Morris Cove to New London/ July 24, 1901/ Won by Navahoe," ht. 9; and a Union des Yachts Francais gold-washed silver medal designed by F. Vernon and with engraved inscription, "Monaco 1903/ 1er Prix Navahoe/À Mr Watjen," dia. 2 3/4 in., approx. 4.8 troy oz.
N.B. The Navahoe was a eighty-four-foot cutter designed by Herreshoff and originally owned by Royal Phelps Carroll, son of Maryland governor John Lee Carroll. She was built to contend with the dominant English yachts on the international race circuit, including the America's Cup, but performed poorly in those outings. Carroll sold the
