Sterling Silver Eastern Yacht Club Trophy Bowl, Boston, Massachusetts, c. 1885, the small hammered bowl with a tapered rim encircled by cast ropes entwining at either side to form loop handles, engraved "2nd Prize/E.Y.C. Regatta/Gitana/June 30th 1885", ht. 3 in., approx. 8.3 troy oz.
N.B. The schooner Gitana was originally owned by W.F. Weld, built at Chelsea in 1882, and designed D.J. Lawler. This particular race was the first race in which the schooner America was raced after it was extensively rebuilt in 1885.
