Bronze Eastern Yacht Club Medal, c. 1892, the obverse cast as the club's official seal, with a sailboat on rough seas, lighthouse, and motto "Aurae Vela Vocant," the reverse with a sea monster and crossed tridents, inscribed, "5th Class Sloops/ 1st Prize/ Harpoon/ George Caspar Adams/ Charles Francis Adams 2nd/ 1892/ September 3," in a fitted canvas case with velvet interior, dia. 3 5/8 in.
N.B. Brothers George Caspar Adams (1863-1900) and Charles Francis Adams III (1866-1954) were direct descendants of Presidents John Adams and John Quincy Adams. Adams III was the Secretary of the Navy from 1929-1933 and was the sailing master when Harpoon defeated Gloriana and Wasp for the Goulet Cup in 1892.
