Le petit Forgeron, alternatively titled Le feu/A Posthumous Cast
Signed "Renoir" on side of base, numbered, inscribed and foundry stamped "1/M © CIRE
C. VALSUANI PERDUE" on base behind the figure.
Bronze with dark brown patina, 11 x 10 3/4 x 7 in. (27.9 x 27.3 x 17.8 cm),mounted to a black wooden plinth.
Condition: Dust to interstices.

Provenance: Purchased from the International Art Exhibition to benefit UNESCO and Brandeis University, Washington, D.C., March 1966.

N.B. The original plaster version was executed in 1916, and the present version in bronze was cast at a later date.
