Condition: Lined, scattered retouch, craquelure, surface grime.

Provenance: Ralph Brill Collection, Cold Spring, New York.

N.B. The farm depicted is thought to be that of Thomas Rossiter, a site that was visited by the artist's Hudson River School friends.

The work is wax lined. The edges of the old canvas are not visible, so it is not possible to judge the age of the original canvas. Retouch to the sky consisting to dots in u.c. Retouch also to fill craquelure, primarily in the trees to the right, and to a lesser extent to the trees on the left. Other minor areas of retouch to craquelure, including a few small lines in the sky. Area of thin paint or perhaps slight skinning to the sky.
