Paris from Notre Dame, 1911. Titled and signed "...Paul Strand" in graphite below the image, blindstamped "©1912 BY P. STRAND" l.l. Hand-colored platinum print, image/sheet size 8 7/8 x 6 15/16 in. (22.5 x 17.7 cm),unmatted, framed.
Condition: Tipped to original mount along top edge, gently light-struck.

N.B. With its unusual bird's-eye view and emphasis on geometric patterns, this print from c. 1912 bridges Strand's early adoption of a Pictorialist style and his embrace of the modernist, "straight" photography aesthetic championed by the influential photographer and modern art promoter Alfred Stieglitz.

Area of sky is brown in color possibly due to acidity of paper support. Possible reworking of negative in area above horizon at left. Subtle water or other staining/discoloration at bottom of mount.
