Brass-bound Camphorwood Lap Desk, New Bedford, Massachusetts, 1849, the top stenciled in white paint "Capt. J. Coffin," the underside of the drawer bottom inscribed in pencil "Made in May 1849/New Bedford/Mass," and further marked on top edge of bottom "NANTUCKET," old surface, (imperfections),ht. 7, wd. 21, dp. 10 in.,

Note: The inscription reportedly refers to either James or Joshua Coffin of Nantucket.
