Pair of Cast Iron Andirons, New England, c. 1790, with ring finial atop a fluted columnar shaft over a heart-shaped boss supported by cabriole legs, all with cast-in foliate detail and marks "EL" and "CONWAY," (imperfections),ht. 14, lg. 13 1/4, wd. 8 1/4 in.
Note: In his collection notes Howard Roth states that a similar pair is held in the collection at Old Sturbridge Village, which feature the same form and embellishments, but instead of "EL CONWAY," are marked "SPRING" "FIELD," with attribution to James Byers & Company (1786-1801) in Springfield, Massachusetts.
