This ground squirrel, now going by the Latin name, Ictidomys tridecemlineatus, is commonly called the thirteen-lined ground squirrel, or striped gopher. It is a burrowing denizen of the North American prairies, where it survives on a diet of insects during the summer and hibernates during the winter.
