Condition: Lined, retouch, old repairs, abrasions.

Work is lined. The original canvas was of a rough weave. There is an abrasion l.c. at the end of the monk's belt, measuring about 2-1/2 inches across. Paint loss u.l. Scattered retouch to outline the skull on the skeleton l.c., at the edge of the cross u.l., a few dots in the sky and a few spots on the monk's robe. Most of the surface shows a milky white varnish under ultra violet light. However, surface imperfections are evidence of old repairs that do not currently fluoresce. These are located u.c. above the top of the cross, at top and at bottom along the left edge.
