American School, 19th Century
Hand-tinted Quarter-plate Daguerreotype of Joseph Webster as a Boy, in an embossed leather case. Inscribed "Joseph M. [?] Webster born July 31st 1842. miniature taken June 7th 1847" in ink on a piece of paper pinned to inside of case, another piece of paper folded in thirds contains a lock of hair and is inscribed "Joseph Hair" in graphite.
Condition: Lightly tarnished at edges, split case worn and abraded with losses of leather around edges, case opening at u.r. and l.r. corners, not examined out of case.
Provenance: A private New England collection.
