Dress Epaulettes of General Benjamin F. Butler, c. mid/late 19th century, gold epaulettes with gold bullion fringe, gilded eagle A buttons and single embroidered stars, brass hardware on bottom marked HORSTMANN & CO/NEW YORK, with red morocco leather and velvet, japanned tin case contains multiple sets of brass mounting hardware and two additional sets of embroidered stars.

Provenance: Sold to benefit the acquisition fund of the Hood Museum of Art, Dartmouth College.

Note: According to a paper label inside the box, these were donated by Adelbert Ames.

Estimate $600-800

Some tarnish on gilt, and a few pieces of fringe have damage, some light paint loss on outside of tin case.
