Charles Fayette Taylor (American, 1894-1996)

Construction. Signed and dated "C.F. Taylor/1961" in marker or similar beneath the wood base. Brass mounted to an oval wood base, height 30 in. without base, diameter of base approximately 8 in. at widest point, 2 3/4 in. high. Condition: Broken piece (included with the lot) from horizontal square element located 9 1/2 inches up from base, surface wear and grime.

N.B. C. Fayette Taylor was a pioneer in the development of the internal combustion engine. "A faculty member of MIT, Fay was the director of the Sloan Laboratory for aircraft and automotive engineering from 1929 to 1960. Following his retirement from M.I.T. he embarked on a second career as a professional sculptor in metal, combining his love of building aesthetic objects with his interest in the natural world and technology. His work is represented in several museums and public buildings throughout the United States." 1.
